Herd Manager
We are looking for a Herd Manager to join our Plantation Dairy team.
Apatu Farms is a proud, family-owned Hawke’s Bay agribusiness producing quality crops and dairy products for local and international markets. We’re passionate about what we do and committed to running sustainable, high-performing farming operations.
We’re currently seeking an experienced Herd Manager to join our Plantation Dairy team in Ongaonga, Central Hawke’s Bay. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity within a supportive and collaborative team.
About the role:
Reporting to the Farm Manager, you’ll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the farm, contributing to animal health, productivity, and overall farm performance. Working as part of a wider team, your responsibilities will include:
- Herd and stock management
- Milking operations
- General farm repairs and maintenance
- Weed control and property upkeep
Your practical approach and attention to detail will help ensure the farm continues to operate efficiently and to a high standard.

About you:
You’ll be hands-on, reliable, and enjoy working as part of a team. You’ll also bring:
- New Zealand citizenship or residency
- A current driver’s licence and confidence operating tractors and farm machinery
- A willingness to get stuck in and contribute positively to the team
- A commitment to achieving high-quality outcomes every day
