We are looking for a Field Operations 2IC to join our Ag team and support our Field Operations Manager.

 The Opportunity

 We are looking for a Field Operations 2IC to join our Ag team and support our Field Operations Manager.

This is a hands-on leadership role that will suit an experienced operational leader who enjoys spending time on the tractor just as much as leading people, solving problems and helping coordinate day-to-day operations. It would also suit a capable machinery operator looking to take the next step in their career and develop into a future Field Operations Manager.

Based out of our Hastings site and supporting cropping activities across Hawke’s Bay, this role offers significant variety across field operations, irrigation and people leadership. Flexibility is key, as you balance operational requirements with good people practices while supporting our teams to deliver excellent outcomes.

You will play an important role in providing leadership and direction across both the machinery and irrigation teams. Working alongside the Field Operations Manager, you will assist with planning, resource allocation, problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives. Two Irrigation Supervisors will report through this position, making it a key operational leadership role within the business.

 What Will You Be Doing?

  • Assisting the Field Operations Manager with day-to-day operational planning, coordination and execution.
  • Providing leadership, coaching and support to field operations and irrigation teams.
  • Working closely with two Irrigation Supervisors to coordinate irrigation activities and priorities.
  • Assisting with irrigation planning, troubleshooting, problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting seasonal work programmes and ensuring resources are effectively utilised.
  • Operating a modern fleet of machinery including John Deere, Fendt and Case tractors equipped with GPS autosteer technology.
  • Undertaking a range of agricultural operations including cultivation, ground preparation, planting, harvesting, grassing down and other crop production activities.
  • Building effective and trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identifying, managing and mitigating operational and health and safety risks.
  • Contributing to a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork and accountability.

 About You

  • Proven experience operating agricultural machinery across a range of cropping or farming activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop people.
  • Experience with irrigation operations, planning or management would be an advantage.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet.
  • A proactive, energetic and can-do attitude.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operational requirements.
  • Full, current New Zealand driver’s licence.
